South Florida Paint Company Restored The Interior Of The Landmark’s Exhibit 1 Room

Tru Colors Contracting recently came to the rescue of the Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum’s restoration project. The South Florida paint contracting company provided their services and supplies to the Fort Lauderdale landmark, restoring the interior walls of the landmark’s Exhibit Room 1 in a Custom Cream painted finish. The heirloom colored finish captures the “Old World” feel and ambience of the 1912 to 1940 era of items and fixtures presented in the exhibit, commented Kim G, Project Estimator at Tru Colors Contracting and Liaison.

Located on Las Olas Boulevard in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, the Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum was originally built in 1927. The station was no longer needed by the fire department in 2003 and was converted into a museum in 2008. Completely funded by donations, the Museum serves to educate the community about the history, tradition and service of the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department and its many heroes.

The Museum tells the major stories of Fort Lauderdale’s firefighters from 1912 to the present. Numerous photographs, videos, historic uniforms and various pieces of equipment are on display at the Museum, along with information and details of major fires and emergencies that Fort Lauderdale firefighters have faced through the years. A Safety Learning Center inside educates children and adults about fire safety, in addition to other safety and medical preparedness courses that are also offered.

Designed by architect Francis Arbeau, the Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum’s structure recalls the appearance of a Cuban farmhouse with Mediterranean Revival details, including a Spanish tile roof and a small Rotunda, along with eyebrow window coverings, turned stone columns and mission-style window grilles.

Everything from a circa 1860 American Fire Engine Co. hand-drawn hose cart and Well-Dressed Fireman From the 1950’s to a FDNY 9-11 Memorial exhibit are featured and on exhibit at the Fire Museum. Due to Covid-19 and other issues, the Museum has been on hiatus for the past several years and recently reopened to the public on April 30, 2022, with a Grand Reopening Celebration.

“We’re very pleased and honored to assist with the restoration of this worthy project. The Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum is a true landmark in our community, and Tru Colors Contracting is proud to have contributed to its heritage and to be a part of its legacy,” commented Lori Delin, President Tru Colors Contracting.
