A Noche Buena is an annual holiday tradition in Lourdes’ family. Ever since she was a child forty years ago, one of her aunts and uncles or older cousins would hold a Noche Buena at their home on Christmas Eve. The annual holiday tradition includes the family gathered together to celebrate the Christmas holiday and features lechon: a whole pig roasted in the backyard. Other family favorites, including black beans and rice, yucca with mojito, fried plantains, Tres Leches cake and flan are also on the menu. Lourdes’ extended family has grown through the years and her family’s annual Noche Buena event now includes upwards of 120 guests.
Each year around Halloween, Lourdes’ family holds a drawing to see which family household will host the Noche Buena. This year, Lourdes was chosen to host the event at the Pembroke Pines home she shares with her husband Emilio and their teenage daughters Maria and Teresa. Although Lourdes and Emilio were honored to have the Noche Buena event at their home, they were concerned about the conditions of their patio, pool area and backyard. While there was ample room on their patio and pool deck areas to hold the event, the ground surface was embedded with dirt. Worse, the walls on their home facing the backyard grounds, where the pig would be roasted, were soiled and had rust marks from the sprinkler system.

I am also glad we also opted to pressure clean our driveway, as well as the walkway leading to the backyard,” commented Lourdes. “Now all we have to do is order patio tables and chairs, along with an outdoor oven and we’ll be all set,” Lourdes concluded.
